Array Rep Power:       78 Reputation:       12214 They are more than just 'decent' live, they are fantastic. The one thing that hasn't changed is that they perform extraordinarily well live. The only thing that holds back their current live shows is that they now have to dedicate time to songs off of The Resistance.
BH&R is probably about a 3 & a half star album in hindsight (at the time I thought it was more) with Absolution being a 4 or 4 & a half depending on your leaning. I still think Blackholes era was Muse at their peak live though as it gave the perfect amount of songs to play live without any filler. Songs like KoC and Supermassive Blackhole were jumps for them and added to an already impressive live setlist.
Although I do begrudgingly admit this, the Triple J masses will vote something from the new album into the top 10 of the Hottest 100 (even if the top 10 isn't always indicative of the Triple J audience at large).
In what way are Muse a robotic band?
They have been a lot of things, robotic is not one of them. This may again come from seeing them live, but they have never seemed robotic in the slightest. The song conveys a grand scale of emotion and comes across as playing with genuine feeling. I suggest it is just you who has misread their message in this regard. It is anything other than dull, throwaway garbage. In fact it is one of my favourite songs of all time and I take a lot of pride in that. It's a great song after all.

You can't be a Muse fan nowadays without everyone saying you're a musically retarded faggot. It's just par for the course. I honestly couldn't give a fuck now, I understand why people hate them, but it doesn't stop me from loving the good work they do. That doesn't make me blind enough to ignore the fact that TR and NSC are mostly tripe.
Anyway, onto Survival. This is my impressions as posted on the Muse boards:
"Haven't posted here for a while, but now is as good a time as ever to share my reactions to the song.
I woke up this morning excited for what I assumed would be Unsustainable and some dubby goodness (which I'm weirdly excited for). Twitter then informed me that the song was to be the official Olympic song and was called Survival, and I prepared myself for something ridiculous.
I fucking hated. I absolutely violently hated it to the point where I cracked a shit and wrote off the album, and started thinking how I'd spend the money I'd save not chasing Muse around the country over the next few years.
I was out all day, but when I got home figured I should give it another crack, and still had that lingering feeling that it was god fucking awful. But slowly I started to think that perhaps it was too god fucking awful. The lyrics I write to my 4 chord monstrosities in my bedroom are better than this. And surely this Wiggles rip-off cant be a natural evolution of this band?
About 15 listens later and I actually think I love it. Not because on its own is it a great song, but there is some juxtapositions in this track that save it, and make me very excited for the album. It's not just an Olympic track, when this is sitting alongside 9 other songs on The 2nd Law, it's going to tell a pretty sinister story I reckon. This may not be a complete concept album, but I reckon this is going to make a lot more sense come September.
From a more practical point of view, the vocals are magnificent, and the first climax at "I'm gonna win!" is fucking magnificent. The first falsetto is equally as good. The guitar work is better than anything on TR (except maybe MKU which I love), and the drop A hopefully points to more heavy riffing.
The choir isn't magnificent, but it's good. I just reckon it is a little too loud in the first part, it sort of overshadows Matt for a bit there. If it was a little more in the background it would be bearable.
So yeah, I'm back on board. And I'm also prepared for all of my friends who hate Muse to laugh in my face, but I'm used to that.""I saw a cockroach playing Pacman. It was on the internet, right, and somebody had linked up a cockroach to err... to some... I can't even be bothered explaining it, but that's what I'm saying - everything is moving on."

Array Rep Power:       30 Reputation:       4109 muse.mu - it's a little weird at times, but for the most part you get some good discussion. Just as many blind haters as there are blind lovers.
