Array Rep Power:       48 Reputation:       9120 So here I am sitting at Uni and will probably be here by midnight tonight trying to re-do an essay completed 3 weeks early.
It was based on the same topic as my presentation (socio-psychological limit to empathy). My tutor dislikes the idea (he's a genocide specialist, but still a Ph. D student) and thus basically subtly told me I'll get a shit mark (I got a HD on the presentation, but my head lecturer marked it). So I have a Assoc. Prof, OAM backing my idea and saying it's novel and brilliant, yet I have to re-do my essay simply because this tutor disagrees and he's the one marking the essays.
I went and saw him today to try and win him over, we were debating and he goes:
"They should have taken action. How can you excuse bystanders?"
My response:
"How can you crucify them?"
He couldn't respond to this but fuck I'm angry.

Array Rep Power:       23 Reputation:       3653 This is exactly how it is. Too be honest I can't think of one time that I've gone out on a limb and discussed anything even semi-contraversial or different than the ideas the lecturer is stressing. I'm doing a different degree with less scope to do so, but I think the point still stands.
On the Uni front, I have 2 weeks+ off work fully paid to study for exams starting Thursday. Not a bad deal really. Does put more pressure on to do well though.

Array Rep Power:       48 Reputation:       9120 The thing that shits me is this:
We were given the license to write on whatever we wanted.
I've gotten the head lecturer's approval.
My tutor displayed none of this resistance when I spoke to him about the presentation on the same topic.
The feedback session was only on Thursday, I've essentially been disadvantaged by being prepared and finished early.

Array Rep Power:       27 Reputation:       4349 breeno, have you tried taking it up with the head lecturer? You'd have to be very tactful in how you did it, but would that potentially open up an avenue to dispute the mark for your essay should it be shit because you feel the marker disagrees with your conclusion (and not your argument?

Array Rep Power:       48 Reputation:       9120 The Head Lecturer said to me when I saw him about the idea:
"Myself and your tutor had a...little disagreement after your presentation, I love the idea but he seems very sceptical. I doubt he'd mark you unfairly, but I'll take a look at yours just in case to make sure you get a deserved mark." He said this without me even bringing the tutor up.
HOWEVER, my only worry is, he might see a 70% as a good mark and not worth overriding, when in reality the essay could be worthy of a high 80s to low 90s, so I'm going to do my best to appease this asshole.
Like, the tutor is a nice guy, and there's no way he'd give me a terrible mark for a polished essay, but he made it pretty clear that he's personally biased, and he himself is worried about going to town on everything he can because he disagrees so fervently.

Array Rep Power:       84 Reputation:       13274 I'd ask him to respectfully check himself out of the marking process and pass it off to another tutor/head lecturer to mark.
Say that removes the possibility of his bias creeping into the marking of your work.
Appeal to the sense that if he is worried his bias will affect the mark there is no way he can rightfully mark it as a professional

Array Rep Power:       48 Reputation:       9120 he seemed to take even more offense when I suggested such a thing. If I get a shit mark I'll just appeal it to the head lecturer, but if it's a high 70s (even though it may have deserved more) I'll probably just have to be content with that.
I got 97% for the exam (topped the subject, fuck yeah) and 87% for my presentation - that leaves me at roughly 92%. I want to try and keep this average up so I can really buffer my grades whilst my Law isn't going as well. It sounds like a classic case of "sooky kid gets 80%, is disappointed", but I'm not one to be content with doing 'averagely' - I want to eventually do a Ph. D in History, so the marks are really pertinent.

I was just happy to get into uni afer deciding to do TEE last minute in year 12, had previously just selected the easiest units in high school. When I go to uni I didn't really understand how it all worked or why I was even there.
Oh well.#FirstTakeCrew #TIACMB
