But for all their shortfalls, keep in mind that between the two of them (Wesfarmers and Woolworths LTD) they pay the wages of about half a million Australians.

I think you'll find that Australian checkout chicks and shelf stackers are some of the highest paid in the whole world. Go work at Tesco's in England or Costco in America, you will probably get paid about half or our minimum wage.

We don't live in America though... All I'm saying is if you can afford toraise the living Standards of your employees you should... Goes for my own employer too... He makes fucking good money from the business but his wages are pretty shit depite his ridiculous mark ups on products

Yeah I worked there for 6 years and they paid the same as, if not more than, what I could get at most casual jobs at the same age.

As far a full time rates go, it was about $19/hr which isn't bad for unskilled work for hundreds of thousands of people. To be fair, half the people there don't even deserve that seeing as they're massive dropkicks.
