Array Rep Power:       24 Reputation:       3414 His career is still a recent memory. He's as good as gotten in straight away.
Yeah I still don't see him as a "dead cert" HOFer at all. Maybe someone who gets named 20-25 years after they've hung it up, but not as soon as he has now. Just seems to be held in significantly higher esteem now than he ever was when he was playing. It's such a fine line between stupid and clever.

Array Rep Power:       78 Reputation:       12214 Yeah well, they still made him wait a year.
Why not, he played 300+ games, was one of the best defenders of the late 90s/early 00s is pretty much the embodiment of who North Melbourne were as a club, hence being given the title of 'Shinboner of the Century'. That's over every other player from that club.Yeah I still don't see him as a "dead cert" HOFer at all. I'm pretty sure he has earned his place in the hall of fame.
As for the being held in higher esteem, in what way is he higher rated now than when he was playing?
I always remember the same words being thrown about for him then as he gets now.

Array Rep Power:       24 Reputation:       3414 I never heard anyone discuss him or treat him as a sure-fire Hall of Famer when he was playing.
Archer was tough, reliable, courageous, durable and embodied the old-time "Shinboner Spirit" like nobody else, but he was never a superstar of the game (genuinely surprised to learn that he gained All-Australian selection three times TBH), and never even won a club B&F.
I mean, consider someone like Wayne Schwass - Played 282 league games, won two B&Fs for North in that era (plus another for Sydney), is named in the Kangaroos Team of the Century, was an All-Australian and a Premiership player, was courageous, exciting, fast and skillful, and has the novelty factor of being one of the few Maoris to play Australian Rules at the highest level, yet you'd probably get laughed out of the place for suggesting him as a Hall of Famer in 2012.
Same goes for someone like Marcus Ashcroft - 318 games (including 170 consecutively from 1992-2000), absolute stalwart of the Brisbane club (over 150 games as both a Bear and a Lion), 3-time Premiership player, as tough, durable and versatile as you'll ever find, has a bloody medal named in his honour (for BOG in the QClash), yet he's probably nowhere near consideration for HOF honours in the next few years.
I'd consider Schwass and Ashcroft to be at the same level as individual players as Archer was, yet I wouldn't expect them in the HOF anytime soon.
For the era that he played (1992-2007), I'd struggle to include Archer (or Schwass, or Ashcroft) in the best 22 players to play the game in that 15 year period, let alone as one of the greatest of all time in the AFL Hall of Fame.Last edited by Damon_3388; 14th June 2012 at 01:20 AM.

Array Rep Power:       17 Reputation:       2420 Take the blue glasses off. Minson this year is miles ahead of Warnock.
Warnock is averaging single figure disposals and less than two marks a game. And that is from a smaller sample size than Minson too.
Warnock is an almighty dud while Minson has been one of the better performing ruckmen this season.

Well, Your Honor. We've plenty of hearsay and conjecture. Those are kinds of evidence.

Array Rep Power:       80 Reputation:       8679 Why did Judd get off so easily for the way he left? LeBron James is getting buttreamed for the way he left 2 years later and I dont really see Judd doing much different to what LeBron did in the way he went about it
Judd announced his departure 24 hours after the end of Eagles season after a close and tough finals loss. Dog act. Atleast finish the recovery sessions before you quit.
Judd toured all the clubs (ala LeBron) all infront of the media (ala LeBron). Judd then held a press conference to announce "his decision" (ala LeBron). Judd then said he was confident he would win another flag with Carlton (ala LeBron).
Seems strange no-one gave a shit about this massive dose of arrogance.Shutup. If I wanted too I could come down there and beat you like a rented mule, or a mule for purchase. Bottom line is if there is livestock involved, ill beat you like it

While I agree that saying Archer didn't deserve it was off the mark, I agree with him that there are a few ahead of him, particularly the Schwass argument. What is the criteria for HOF? Is it off the field work towards the game as well? Because Schwass is also building a pretty handy media career.
