Completely agree. Expansion for expansion's sake is bizarre, all the good markets are long since tapped.

A lot but we do have an exiting brand of footy which should attract a few extra numbers.

When we're in the eight and fixed all our Melbourne based issues we'll have 25-30k fans easily.

Pretty clear the expansion was to take market share from the NRL

Do you get a sense that Lions fans have went over to Gold Coast and if so how many do you reckon went.
Shutup. If I wanted too I could come down there and beat you like a rented mule, or a mule for purchase. Bottom line is if there is livestock involved, ill beat you like it

    Brisbane Roar avg. attendance: 13,387
    GC United avg. attendance: 3,438
    GC Suns avg. attendance: 13,486
    Bris Lions avg attendance: 20,490

Brisbane Broncos avg. attendance: 36,336, highest in the country and the world for Rugby League

I'm going to go with the fact that very few in Queensland ever have or ever will give two shits about AFL or any sport except league unless their team is doing well. Hell, even I found myself taking a vague interest in NRL while Melbourne Storm doing well (never enough to go to a game but yeah)

Exiting is the key word here.

What are attendances like for the test matches and ODI's up there?

It varies, normally we get a decent crowd on the first day of the first test, even though we get the arse end of the summer scheduling. This year against South Africa should see an almost full Gabba on the first day.

If guess and say ODI's are about the same as the rest of the country. The Brisbane Heat did pretty well as far as crowds go too.

Broncos are very unique. The next best NRL team doesn't even average 20k.

Still, the Broncos are 2nd on the NRL ladder, and the Lions are 13th? Putting those 2 games up against each other on a Sunday was never going to work for the Lions. I don't think I've ever seen them schedule games on the same day both in Brisbane. Very odd.

    Haha was on my phone.

I don't live there but from what i know/see the tests are always a sold out event on day 1/2 while the ODIs are usually have solid numbers.

Angus Johnson did say we're aiming to get 30k memberships by 2013-14 ? iirc

We need more of these games through

Yeah Brisbane's crowds have been disappointing, Sydney's was disgusting Sunday. I know it was raining but fark, 13000 is embarrassing.

Hard to say so early on IMO, but I guess you would know more than me given our respective locations.

It's the Gold Coast, Australia's sporting graveyard?

FWIW Sydney's home crowds have dropped pretty significantly the last couple of seasons also. 26k-ish last year and just over 22K at present this season - weather has affected that at parts im sure and I guess they havent had their highest drawing opposition at this point

I haven't read through the thread, but surely half of the SCG being closed is the reason the crowds are down?

    Forgot about that this season.

They dropped about 4-5k last season though from where they were, despite the full stadium being open

Im guessing a section normally reserved for the public has been given over to Members whilst the Noble/Bradman stands are redone?
