"At the moment there is no chance of Santon signing for Roma. At the moment the objective is Newcastle"

Array Rep Power:       38 Reputation:       3895 Pardew needs reinforcements | Sky Sports | Football | Transfer Centre | SpeculationAlan Pardew has admitted his frustration at a failure to sign another two players and the Newcastle manager is conscious of the fact his squad requires reinforcements.
The St James' Park club continued their unbeaten start to the season with three points courtesy of two goals from Leon Best at Fulham on Sunday.
But Pardew remains keen to add to the summer signings of Demba Ba, Sylvain Marveaux, Yohan Cabaye, Mehdi Abeid and Gabriel Obertan before Wednesday night's deadline.
The departures of Jose Enrique and most recently Joey Barton have left Newcastle short and full-backs Erik Pieters and Aly Cissokho remain targets.
But Dutch media reports suggest a deal for the latter is off and the agent of Inter Milan defender Davide Santon claims talks are instead taking place with his client.
Pardew said in the Northern Echo: "I am frustrated that we have not got a couple of bodies in yet.
"Derek Llambias (managing director), Lee Charnley (club secretary) and Mike Ashley are as frustrated as me. Hopefully we will get over the line this week.
"There's nothing to update, we are at a point where in a few days we will know for sure what we have."
He added: "You can't disguise the fact that, in a week we lost Joey after losing Jose Enrique, we needed people to come out of the pack.
"Gabriel Obertan and Sammy Ameobi are doing that and I think Leon Best did that here. But we need reinforcements. I am not going to disguise that. We need reinforcements."
Italy international Santon is under contract with the Serie A giants until June 2014 and is also a reported target of Roma.
"At this time there is no possibility that Santon can join Roma because right now the aim is Newcastle," said Santon's agent, Claudio Vigorelli, to Corriere dello Sport.
Seems like Pardew wants shit to get done this week.

I haven't seen much of Obertan, other than the derby, but he didn't much impress me. He just doesn't seem to understand that he should look to move the ball on when his team is breaking.

Santon sounds like a risk worth taking. he could take a long time to adapt though. I dont believe the agent though. Santon sounds like a family man, and could be using the Newcastle transfer to get a deal done with Roma. wouldnt be the first time.Tasmania Tigers - Sheffield Shield Champions 2007 2010 2013

Array Rep Power:       57 Reputation:       7039 That was by far his worst game for us.
Against Arsenal he came off the bench and was bright, played just off the striker and it's the best he's looked for us.
He has an abundance of pace and skill, just looks like he lacks confidence at times. Definitely a work in progress.
Anyway, something to
over:

Array Rep Power:       57 Reputation:       7039 Santon is in Newcastle (apparently). Deal should be done tonight.
Also rumours that we're going to sign Sulley Muntari and Federico Macheda on loan.

Array Rep Power:       57 Reputation:       7039 Macheda is, haven't seen enough of Muntari recently but he's not that bad IMO. Signing makes very little sense though, another CM gone for the ACN

EDIT: If the rumours are true about us being in for Yossi, wonder if he'll come to join back up with Pardew. They seemed to have a good relationship at West Ham and I'm not sure his wage demands would be 'that' high.

Array Rep Power:       57 Reputation:       7039 Right, rumour is that two people were picked up off the same flight and one is Santon.
2+2 = Muntari is also signing. I'll reserve judgement on that signing for the time being.

Array Rep Power:       7 Reputation:       1203 Muntari fit in perfect with the unwashed last season, by being a complete cunt and a hack of a footballer to boot. Mediocre loan signings scream 'We love relegation battles' aswell
Signing Yossi would be a complete slap in the face from the board considering the so called transfer/wage/contract/age policy and absolutely a last ditch desperete effort to save face after the complete shambles this transfer period has been.
Would be a small consolation if we had played decent football in the first few weeks, but to have any points let alone 7 is Man Utd-esque grabbing of undeserved points.Last edited by fender; 30th August 2011 at 10:17 AM.
