Array Rep Power:       54 Reputation:       9796 Notes from Sunday Night's games (WCE/ESS/FREM)
- Weedon - Made multiple notes on this guy during the night. Provided some brilliant F50 pressure with his chase and tackle. Seems an accurate kick on goal, and was a decent lead-up option too - always seemed to have the front position over his opponent, which could lead to those crucial +1's for frees for
If his round one probability was based on the first game alone, he'd be in. But I felt Hams was more consistent over both games, and arguably better around the ground too (got a few touches across half back). Obviously still a lot will take place between now and Round 1, but we should get a look at both if the Eagles keep playing like they did on Sunday. - Wasn't that impressed with Essendon's young kids (Long, Kavanagh). Dell'Olio seemed to get his goals from the Bombers' counter attacking game style; though he did back himself enough to try a banana where a drop punt would've been preferred, so take from that what you will.
- Hille dominated Lycett early, using his body really well at both at centre clearances and around the ground, although I wouldn't expect Lycett to get many games, given Cox and NicNat weren't playing.
- Carlise - has the ability to take a strong mark all around the ground. Think he rucked at different stages in forward half too. Will watch the rest of his pre-season with interest, but probs not on my radar atm - just not consistent enough yet.
- Melksham was in the action, but didn't do much with it (early on). Handballed to team mates under the pump once or twice. Just seemed ineffective.
- Priddis - in and under as usual. Should produce similar, if not better than his 114 point average last year.
- Tom Swift looked like he had more time that he had. Probably can't pick him on that atrocious haircut though. On the flip side, I'll probably pick Dempsey for his facial hair alone.
- Also thought that Masten looked good, but I won't be getting sucked in.
- Howlett should have a good year; looks to have added muscle. I felt he was Essendon's most impressive midfielder on the night. Couple of penetrating runs, and used the pill effectively. Awkward pricing of $442k rules him out though.
- Josh Hill - Brad Johnson said during the coverage that his Vo2 levels at the Dogs were in their best, just couldn't make the most of it on the field. He was solid, and provided fwd options for WCE, but far too awkwardly priced to be considered.
- Monfries - should be a better player than he is. Get back up after you've been hit son, FFS.
- Still unsure as to where Lyon will play Duffield primarily. Seemed to be in Freo's midfield rotation, even kicking a goal, but just didn't have the impact we all wanted him to have. Did manage a bit in Game two, with nine disposals and three marks. Need to see more Freo games to make a decision, but leaning toward Broughton at this stage.
- Fyfe
In amongst it. Clearnances. Contested possessions. And didn't looked troubled by his shoulder/groin in the slightest. Also did the team things - noticed he put a block on for Hill following a boundary throw in. Lock. Him. In. - Ballantyne - Plenty of wing time. Showing higher intensity than previous years and seemed to be in the right places to receive the ball, good sign that he wants the footy. Will still push/rest forward you'd think.
- Sandi I felt was rusty, just blowing out cobwebs though. Was beaten early by Ryder, but came good toward the end.
- Stephen Hill - Noticeable muscle gain. Main role is still that of a ball carrier/line breaker, and I'd imagine Lyon would use him in a similar way to what he did Montagna. Would be a unique pick, especially with Hayes priced at $422k (Hill's at $418k). No from me.
- Zaharakis - I only want one of Martin/Zaha/Beams in my team, and he didn't stake his claim to Dusty's F4 spot.
- Fremantle's forward pressure & numbers in their F50m with a minute to go in the game vs ESS was a really positive sign (were 30 pts up at the time).
- If the Eagles can maintain the kind of pressure that we saw in the first half against the Dockers, then 2012 could be Shannon Hurn's year. Just kept loading up time and time again whenever Fremantle tried to clear it out of their D50. Could lead to more I50s (Eagles had 13 at HT vs FREM), goal assists and even goals. Don't forget he does the majority of the Eagles kick-ins too. West Coast's bye in Round 11 helps too. Reminded me of Boyd's game on Saturday night, in the sense that he roamed around and did as he pleased.
- Neale - didn't seem flsutered by pressure/occasion etc, Good in intra club. Loved Ross Lyon's comments on 'On The Couch' too.
- Koby Stevens was in and under, would love to see him play more games, but may struggle with Kerr, Priddis & Embley to come back in. I worry about Swift's game time for the same reason.
- Shuey could have that breakout year, where he averages 100+. Was only letdown by his 'sharpness' though I'm sure he was just blowing out the cobwebs. A rich man's Dangerfield.
