We have a game where the idea is to punch people in the jaw when they are not looking. I have a hangover, fat lip and a bruised jaw this morning, and work in an hour.

Array Rep Power:       44 Reputation:       7481 I played my first game for the year just helping to make up the numbers with the team I played with last year, first bit of running I've done since the last game last year, and was out on my feet in the first 5 minutes. Somehow I ended up starting at Centre Half Back, despite my fitness and never having played CHB in my life.

Never really experienced true footy club atmosphere until last night. I played nine years at the one club but it always felt like it was a business rather than a club if that makes sense. It's a Div 1 club, has its own restaurant, awesome clubrooms, rakes in so much money from the pokies but it felt like they never really cared about the players.
I have mates who play out at another club (who just so happen to be my old club's biggest rival) so another couple of mates and I went down to watch their A grade. It's a typical local club, average rooms, parents of the kids also serve the meals/sit behind the bar, financially it's nothing great. After the game we all went into the clubroom for presentation but we ended up just talking trash and drinking until 2am. I was noticing just small things throughout the night that made me realise how much better it was at this club. I didn't even feel like an outsider at the club, had people I had never seen before coming up and talking to me about all sorts of things.
But as I said, just small things made so much difference. For example, fourth best of the As, Bs and Cs all get a mug of beer that they have to neck down but after that everyone else has to pay for their drinks for the rest of night and if it's your turn to buy then you get a $2 discount. Or they have a money tin for fines and if you commit a foul you have to put $1 in. Fouls can be pretty much anything though, from an ugly haircut (one of the guys has a typical hipster fringe and gets pinged every time he's at the club lul) to wearing sunnies inside or questionable clothing. If the team loses then you put in $1, same goes if the AFL team you follow loses and then all the money goes towards the footy trips at the end of the year.
My old club has absolutely nothing like that, it seems like nothing and that's only two examples but I seriously couldn't name one thing that my old club did that was similar. They even stopped giving juniors a free small glass of coke at the end of the game at presentations because they didn't want to waste it. All three grades lost yesterday as well, could only imagine what it's like when they actually win.
End of story, 11 ago I had the choice to choose between the clubs. One were the Hawks, one were the Tigers and the other the Magpies, I chose to be a Hawk but looking back I probably should have chosen to a Tiger. I would also have three premierships and four GF appearances next to my name rather than just one GF appearance

Array Rep Power:       17 Reputation:       2420 Yeah thats what I love about country footy.
Last year at South Clare we had after match functions upstairs at the clubrooms, a fines tin (fines handed out for not wearing club gear to presentations mostly), jukebox and cheap piss. Southies are a bit of a rich club, great facilities.
This year down at Border Districts it is similar. Not as fancy as South, but just proper country blokes. All the old farmers in the area hang around the club and talk to you like you are their sons, and all the kids idolise you because you are an adult playing for the same club as them. No fines tin either which is good. Just have to watch out for a sneaky jaw punch.
Both clubs have cheap teas and excellent atmosphere. Footy clubs are one of the best social scenes out there.

Array Rep Power:       17 Reputation:       2420 Played on this absolute little rat-faced cunt yesterday.
Had just walked to position, he started bumping me and trying to start shit. I politely questioned why he was so ugly, then wondered aloud whether his parents were related. More bumping and a muffled "I know you are so what am I" from rat-boy.
First contest we have I outmark him and set up a goal. Before celebrating with teammates a bit I run over and line up rat boy. Put him on his arse.
We ended up losing the reserves game, so he had the last laugh. But we won the A's in a huge upset so we were all happy.
