    Mid-season review

    Brisbane Lions

    Record: 5-7
    Current position: 13th
    Predicted finish: 12th

Star performer: Tom Rockliff looks on track for a second best and fairest on the trot. He started the year with a best-on-ground showing against the Demons and rarely turns in a bad one.

Needs to lift: Aaron Cornelius has been around long enough now to settle into life in the big league. His four AFL seasons have produced 20 games and the 22-year-old has teased at times. He looks a perfect third tall for the Lions and needs to cement a place in the run home.

Brisbane started the year with many expecting them to finish in the bottom four. They may not end the campaign much further up the ladder but they've improved and regained respect among the competition. Rockliff is elite, Jack Redden isn't far behind, and the likes of Pearce Hanley, Dayne Zorko and Daniel Rich are making meaningful impact.

The AFL version has Polkinghorne as the player who needs to lift. All up it's a good piece and pretty spot on, hopefully we can pull off a few upsets and rise up the ladder.

Still think the Bulldogs might have a crack during trade week - i.e. Cornelius

What do you think we'll get in return? Maybe a second rounder ?

Hard to say really, last month everything was looking bad but all of a sudden everything has changed.. gameplan is working, skills are up, players are working hard and the newer kids are really stepping up.

If we continue to play well for the rest of the year and manage to draft/trade well then i'll say finals is a big possibility next year.

But right now i'm more interested to see the development of guys like Polec, Lester, Golby, Harwood, Karnezis etc etc
