Might be a bit early but meh we will need one eventually so may as well start one now.
All discussion/meme's/gifs/romney gaffes ITT.
Campaigns should officially kick off pretty soon building up to the November 6th election.
Some important dates are:
August 30th - 2012 Republican National Convention, Tampa Florida.
September 6th - 2012 Democratic National Convention, Charlotte North Carolina.
October 3rd - First Presidential debate
October 16th - Second Presidential debate
October 22nd - Final presidential debate.
As per usual 270 of the electoral college votes (538 total) are needed to be won to gain office.
Early polling/analysis is as follows (also represented in picture below):
Obama - 270 (includes 241 strong, 29 lean)
Romney - 181 (includes 170 strong, 11 lean)
Tossup - 87

Picture below shows early polling/analysis of the largest 16 states by electoral votes. Three big traditional 'tossup' states in there being Florida, Ohio and North Carolina. All three states had a run of consecutive elections voting Republican but were swung back to the Democrats in 2008 by Obama. Will be interesting keeping an eye on those three states.

Jobes early prediction -
Obama should retain office barring any catastrophic policy gaffes on the campaign trail. Has a solid base of around 240 strong democrat electoral votes and I predict him to win 2 of the 3 major tossup states, North Carolina being one of them.
I was interested in his decision to come out in the support of gay marriage in an election year but I guess his campaign team figured that anyone terribly offended by it was probably never going to vote for him anyway.
Also I fully expect his experience and lets face it, his pure awesomeness, to get him a couple of convincing wins in the debates.
4 more years of this guy pls.

Over to you guys.

Also cant help but laugh at that breakdown of who is voting where. New England and East Coast, and West Coast, + Illinois + Michigan, supporting democrats, almost all the middle and south behind the republicans. Nutcases flanked by progressives.
Should be an interesting campaign, crazy electoral system though.

Can't see anything other than Obama getting a second term really. There'd have to be a huge national swing in favour of Romney for the GOP to win.
Romney's best chance would be through the big 3 of Ohio, Pennsylvania and Florida and even that doesn't assure him a win, because it assumes Obama loses Virginia, North Carolina, Iowa, Missouri AND Arizona. If Romney loses 1 of 'the big 3,' it'll be very tough, if he loses 2, it's pretty much over.#YOTS
