    Awesome news.
"Homie, maybe we should go inside."

"The Greendale Community College gang will be coming back intact in the fall. I have learned that Sony Pictures TV, which produces Community, has picked up the options on all actors from the cult NBC comedy series for next season. That includes co-star Chevy Chase, who seemed noncommittal about his future on the show in the spring. “

Comic-Con: New Community Showrunners Promise "We Won't Screw it Up" - IGN

    Promising signs from Comic-con

Not promising if you weren't fans of the Troy-Britta thing gaining traction

I’ve got to admit, the Community panel had me nervous this year. Fans had been understandably upset (if not outright furious) over the news that Sony and NBC decided to not bring series creator Dan Harmon back to run the show in Season 4, and this would be the first big (official) Community event since then. It would also be the first time the new showrunners, David Guarascio and Moses Port (Aliens in America, Happy Endings), would face the fans – and while they had nothing to do with Harmon being removed, it was hard not to think that some more hostile fans might give them a less than warm welcome.

Those concerns turned out to be unfounded though, as the audience were all respectful and applauded for them as they were introduced, alongside a panel that included cast members Joel McHale, Alison Brie, Danny Pudi, Yvette Nicole Brown and Gillian Jacobs, returning executive producer Russ Krasnoff and returning writers Megan Ganz and Andy Bobrow.

Despite the Harmon situation, the vibe was very positive – the fans were clearly overjoyed to see the Community gang. It should be noted audience questions were kept to a minimum (and likely heavily screened), but still, there wasn't any outbursts directed from the audience towards the new guys.

Guarascio (who did much of the talking for he and his partner) immediately addressed the situation, saying he and Port were in an usual situation where two months ago they were just like the fans in the audience – “Just huge fans of the show. And suddenly we’re here helping to keep it going.” He added, “We care about keeping it the weird, wonderful gem that it’s always been and that’s not going to change.”

Later on, they spoke more about taking over the show and Guarascio again stressed, “The easy part is we are fans of the shows first” who were very familiar with Community as viewers, watching and wondering, “How do they get away with doing that? How amazing is that cast?”

He said that they felt the fans have an influence on Community more than any other series and that often in the writers room, “We’re actually talking about what you are going to like.”

Port noted, “We’re not just walking in with no support. It’s the best cast on television and a lot of the same writers.” He then simply added, “What I mean to say is, we’re not going to screw it up.”

With no new footage from Season 4 (they don’t go into production until August), video packages (and there were a few) consisted of clips from Season 3, a gag reel and a fan tribute video, showing some of the ways Community viewers have shown their love, including the recent Six Seasons and a Movie art show.

The casts were all very funny and entertaining, though obviously all they could do was speculate on what might happen. But from Pudi performing the Christmas rap from last season (with McHale proclaiming, “That's right mother**kers!" at the end) to Jacobs high fiving a very adoring fan, there were plenty of crowd-pleasing moments.

Harmon was mentioned in passing more than once when the panelists were telling stories from the show’s history, but at one point, after Krasnoff mentioned him, Brown loudly yelled, “Dan Harmon!” and the crowd cheered.

So what do Guarascio and Port have planned for Season 4? “Some new relationships,” said Guarascio. “Some real significant relationships. One of them might involve the Dean and Jeff. It’s going to take a step forward.” He also joked that the “spark” between Troy and Britta might turn into some fire.

Guarascio said they intended to, “Get to visit some places the show has felt like it’s been wanting to go to for years,” specifically revealing we’d finally go to Pierce’s mansion, “and see the twisted world” there.

Huge applause greeted Guarascio revealing, “We’re going to get to go to an Inspector Spacetime convention.” And after bringing up Community’s forays into animation, he said, “I think we should do a little in the first episode. We’ll see.”

Ganz also noted that Nick Kroll and his group of Germans (you know, the dudes with the soccer ball, who played human Foosball) may be back in Season 4. We also will definitely meet Jeff’s dad at last. As for who will play him, McHale deadpanned, “Eddie Murphy. Pluto Nash himself.”

Community has many ongoing jokes and long-term payoffs. The discovery by fans that characters saying Beetlejuice in three different episodes resulted in a man dressed as Beetlejuice walking by in the background was brought up as an example – and it was revealed that occurred when Ganz brought up the two Beetlejuice mentions they’d already done to Harmon and what that could mean for a third one.

Said Ganz (who wore an awesome "Save The Cape" t-shirt), “Layering that goes like that will always be a part of the show. That rewarding of viewership will keep going. It’ll be more and more layered every year.”

As for whether the characters might actually finish community college in Season 4 and what that might mean for the show, Guarascio said they’d discussed that and how the show could “keep going even if they’re not in the school at the same time,” suggesting some characters might finish their time at Greendale CC before others. He added that at this point, this group are all very close and, “Their relationships exist way outside the confines of that space.”

All of the cast thanked the fans for their huge support, which they credited for getting them a fourth season. Jacobs at one point noted, “We may not get Emmys or even get nominated for them but we win every single online poll because of you guys.
